An office move needs a connection plan and a readiness date for each critical service. Coordinate the carrier, building management and internal network team before moving equipment.

Inventory the destination

Map desks, wireless access points, meeting rooms, equipment racks and security devices. Confirm the carrier handoff location and available pathways. Identify power, cooling and access requirements for the network room. Separate new construction from reuse of existing cabling.

Assign dependencies

Record who orders carrier service, installs the backbone, supplies switches and configures the network. Track lead times and approval dates. A completed cable installation does not mean the carrier circuit, firewall or application environment is ready.

Rehearse acceptance

List the functions needed on the first working day and the owner for each check. Include voice, internet access, shared applications and required security systems. Test from the intended locations with representative equipment before the move.

Keep a recovery option

Define the point at which an incomplete service triggers a fallback plan. Keep support contacts and equipment records available during the move. After completion, update rack layouts, port assignments and drawings so temporary arrangements do not become undocumented permanent connections.

Coordinate relocation dependencies

An office move may require new fiber termination, Ethernet distribution, wireless coverage, access-control management connectivity and surveillance recorder migration. Identify what can be switched in advance and what depends on the landlord or carrier. Record existing network ports, usernames, service contracts and essential security functions before any equipment is unplugged.

Test the new location before turnover

Verify fiber link loss, patch and port assignments, connectivity between cabinets, camera playback and access-control event reporting as appropriate. Set a defined cutover window with a fallback path if carrier service is delayed. Update diagrams, label the racks and transfer administrative rights to the organization.
