A walkthrough should turn observations into an actionable closeout list. Invite the facilities representative, network owner and installer so questions can be assigned immediately.

Follow one link end to end

Start at the labeled panel, identify the cable route and finish at the remote termination. Compare the physical identifiers with the drawing. Note inaccessible areas rather than marking them inspected. Check that service access is possible without disturbing unrelated connections.

Review workmanship and records

Look for organized patching, protected entries and clear labels. Have qualified personnel review installation concerns against the product and project requirements. Check that the material schedule reflects substitutions and that acceptance files use the same link names as the panels.

Demonstrate operation

Ask the responsible system owner to verify the functions included in the scope. Record the test, outcome and any limitation. Do not close an optical test failure merely because one application appears to work.

Assign every exception

For each item, record location, description, responsible party and the condition for acceptance. Resolve and recheck the item before closing it. Deliver the updated drawing and report package after repairs so the final records describe the final installation.

Walk the route before approving installation

A useful site walkthrough records every building entry, rack, conduit route, ceiling type, riser, outdoor crossing and existing utility conflict. Identify available fiber, patch capacity, environmental limitations and which areas require escort or lift access. Photograph cabinets and pathway junctions with permission and number proposed termination points.

Define field acceptance

Have the project owner verify labeling, enclosure placement, bend protection, splice schedule, loss-test results and updated drawings. An installation is not complete solely because the switch port displays a link. Ensure customer personnel know where the fiber ends and how to report an intermittent connection.
